WRM take on the Three Peaks Challenge

July 2, 2019

Team WRM and friends successfully completed the hotly anticipated Three Peaks Challenge on 22/23 June. A team of us here at WRM had been training hard for the challenge since December completing many practice walks up Pen-Y-Fan, Kinder Scout and the Malverns to name a few. As one of our many training walks in May, an even larger team also completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks (26 miles and 3 peaks in 12 hours).

The final challenge consisted of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The aim was to complete this within 24 hours but a combination of poor weather, a speed-limited minibus and traffic meant the challenge actually took a gruelling 30 hours from start to finish. The total walking distance was 23 miles with a total ascent of 3064 metres. The total driving distance was 462 miles (not including the time taken to get to the starting point at Ben Nevis). It was both a big physical but also mental challenge as the team fought sleep deprivation and muscle fatigue.

The Three Peaks team consisted of 11 people including a support team, some from within WRM and some friends of the firm. A fantastic effort by all with Snowdon proving particularly difficult as atrocious weather set in for what ended up being a bit of a night hike (hence no photo at the top)! Everyone involved committed a lot and time and effort to the cause to make sure they were ready.

We are raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity, a charity that WRM has supported for a long time and that do a huge amount of work to further the fight against brain tumours.
