Currently, when making an application to the Probate Court for a Grant of Probate (where there is a Will) or a Grant of Letters of Administration (where there is no Will), there is a flat fee payable of £155 plus 50p for each additional Court sealed copy of the Grant.
There are proposals for an increase in these fees so that they will be based on the value of the estate.
The proposals, anticipated to take effect from April 2019, are as follows:
Value of Estate | New Probate Court Fee £ |
Up to £50,000 or exempt from requiring Grant of Probate | 0 |
£50,000 – £300,000 | 250 |
£300,000 – £500,000 | 750 |
£500,000 – £1 million | 2,500 |
£1 million – £1.6 million | 4,000 |
£1.6 million – £2 million | 5,000 |
Above £2 million | 6,000 |
Further details will follow as they become available.
